CVTC Health and Safety
Pre-Camp Arrival
- Family completion of all online forms – Medical form and Parent Forms and Releases
Camp
- The emotional and physical safety of your child while at CVTC is of paramount importance to us.
- Campers will not be admitted to camp who are ill, have a fever, or have taken medication to reduce a fever. Once they are well, they can be admitted to camp.
- Once the session has begun, we will contact you within 24 hours if your child has been admitted to the Health Center due to illness or injury.
- If our Camp Nurses feel that your camper needs more care than we can provide at camp, we require that you pick up your child within 12-24 hours.
Facility Cleaning Procedures – CVTC has received the Gold Seal for meeting and exceeding all requirements from the Monterey County Health Department for our Kitchen/Dining Area and Pool/Spa for the past 27 years. Special attention for excellent ventilation of all closed spaces has always been an important part of the CVTC experience. The entire facility has always been deep cleaned between sessions.
Personal Hygiene
- Room Counselors will encourage/promote good personal hygiene of campers, including daily showers and clean clothes each day.
Staff and Staff Training
- All counselors will be arriving 6-7 days before campers arrive.
Safety and Emergency Procedures at CVTC
We spend a lot of time and money every year to ensure the safety of CVTC campers, staff and facilities.
• We are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), which requires yearly reporting of all safety aspects of the CVTC facilities, trainings and programs. We are required to notify by letter our dates of operation and summer procedures to the following:
Cachagua Fire Department
Monterey County Sheriff’s Department
Monterey County Office of Emergency Services (OES)
Monterey County Environmental Health Department
Monterey County Supervisor’s Office
Discovery Bus Charter – the bus company that would evacuate the camp to Carmel Middle School in the event of a need to evacuate.
• The Monterey County Health Department does annual inspections of our entire facility and program which include all the ACA standards and even stricter guideline lines required by the State of California.
• Monterey County also has a sophisticated warning system in the event of a disaster that contacts all of our phones via call and text as well as sending emails.
• Our Cachagua Fire Chief (who is also a longtime Cal Fire Captain) inspects CVTC each Spring to ensure we are doing everything to keep everyone and everything safe. He has told us that this is the safest place in the Valley because of the extensive tennis court area and our diligent landscape management.
• We have a 45 kilowatt backup generator that powers the entire camp area and comes on automatically when the power goes off. We also have a 18 kilowatt generator that powers the well (our water source that pumps water to our 30,000 gallon water tanks). Both of the generators are connected to our propane storage tanks.
• We have two fire hydrants at the camp buildings with 1 1/2″ fire hose, 1″ fire hose and fire nozzles. In addition, we have a hydrant connected to our 27,000 gallon pool for the fire department to draw directly from the pool if needed.
• Another hydrant and fire hose and nozzles are located outside the two Owner/Director houses.
• Both of the Owner/Directors houses have solar panels and battery back up:
11 Panels and 2 Enphase Batteries on 1 house.
61 Panels and 2 Enphase batteries on the second house.
• The camp buildings have an extensive fire alarm/sprinkler system with a designated landline to First Alarm, which monitors our fire alarms and sprinkler system.
• Our phone service (both landline and cell) is provided by AT&T, which has a cell tower 1 mile away from camp.
• Our internet provider is Starlink, and we have one Starlink system for the camp buildings (including our Office) and a separate one for the two houses.
