Carmel Valley Tennis Camp is a smoke, alcohol and drug free environment

Basic Qualifications for all Counselors:

  • US College level tennis player or equivalent or past CVTC camper

  • US Social Security number – we only make payments through payroll; we do not pay cash to Staff

To Succeed as a CVTC Counselor it is essential that you enjoy being around, teaching and caretaking children ages 10-18

Available Positions and Qualifications

  • Head Counselor

    • Must be at least 21 and have completed at least three years of university at a four year institution
    • Must have experience managing peers
    • Experience working with and care taking children
    • May 31-August 16 plus pre arrival online trainings – Salary $8,000 (includes food and housing); $1000 bonus for completing May 31-August 16
  • Tennis Counselor

    • Must be at least 19 and have completed one year of university at a four year institution
    • Must be playing college tennis or the equivalent or be a past CVTC camper
    • Experience working with or taking care of children
    • June 2-August 16 plus pre arrival online trainings – First Year Counselor Salary $6,000 (includes food and housing); $400 bonus for completing June 2-August 16
  • CVTC Past Camper Counselor Position – Half Summer

    • Completed one year of university at a four year institution
    • Attended CVTC as a camper for at least two summers
    • Experience working with or taking care of children
    • Salary $3,000 plus room and board
      • Either June 2-July 11 plus pre arrival online trainings OR
      • July 12-August 16 plus pre arrival online trainings
      • $200 bonus for completing either June2-July 11 OR July 12-August 16
  • Returning Tennis Counselor

    • June 2-August 16 plus pre arrival online trainings – Salary $6,500 (includes food and housing); $500 bonus for completing June 2-August 16 
  • Returning CVTC Past Camper Counselor Position – Half Summer

    • Either June 2-July 11 plus pre arrival online trainings OR
    • July 12-August 16 plus pre arrival online trainings
    • Salary $3,250 (includes food and housing)
    • $250 bonus for completing either June 2-July 11 OR July 12-August 16
  • Returning CVTC Past Camper Counselor – Full Summer

    • June 2-August 16 plus pre arrival online trainings 
    • Salary $6,250 (includes food and housing)
    • $400 bonus for completing June 2-August 16

General Responsibilities for Tennis Counselors

  • Teach or assist in 3 hours of group lessons (four to six campers in a group) M-F

  • Caretaking children in a room group: living in a room with 7 campers

  • Supervising match play 

  • Tennis Counselors assist in the planning, supervision, and running of the daytime offcourt, evening, and weekend activities

  • Offcourt activity areas include: lifeguarding, ropes course, archery, health center (assist camp nurse), art house, camp store, centre court, lawn games, dorm duty

 

General Responsibilities for Past CVTC Camper Counselor Position

  • Running or assisting in off court activities, ie Ropes course, Archery, Art House, Pro Shop, Center Court, Lawn Games, etc.

  • Supervising Match Play

  • Assist in caretaking children in a room group

  • Assist in Evening and Weekend Actitivities

Time Off and CVTC Description

  • Time off during each day (at least one hour) and 1 day each week

  • Two evenings off from 7:30PM-10:30 PM each week

  • The camp provides a washer, dryer and detergent for doing your own laundry

  • CVTC has a Staff House with an outdoor kitchen with microwave and refrigerator; an exercise area with spin bike, treadmill, weights, TRX; and a Staff lounge with high speed wi-fi and a stringing machine that are available during time off

  • Cell phone coverage is spotty on the property but can be used easily over the wi-fi at the Staff House and lounge. Cell phones cannot be used by counselors during work hours.

  • Tennis Counselors sleep in a room (on a bunk bed) with 7 campers or in the Staff House and share responsibility for the care and supervision of 8-10 campers in the dorm.
